Experience the Colca Canyon on a 2-day tour departing from Arequipa. This package explores Chivay the Cruz del Condor and other key locations within the Colca Valley.
Between 7:30 AM and 8:00 AM transportation will collect passengers from various hotels to begin the journey to the Colca Canyon. The route follows the Yura road ascending towards the Chachani volcano and continuing into the Pampa Cañahuas within the Aguada Blanca and Salinas National Reserve. This area is known for its population of vicunas a South American camelid. The Tocra wetlands offer opportunities to observe migratory birds including flamingos. The route passes the Chucura extinct volcano crater. A stop is made at the Volcanoes viewpoint the highest point on the route at 4800 meters (15748 feet) above sea level offering views of the western mountain range.
Arrival in Chivay is scheduled between 1:30 PM and 2:00 PM. Hotel check-in is followed by lunch which is not included in the tour package. At 5:00 PM the tour visits the La Calera hot springs where thermal waters range from 35 to 38 degrees Celsius. Dinner at 8:00 PM features a folkloric show also not included in the package. Overnight stay in Chivay.
Breakfast is served at 6:00 AM. At 6:30 AM the tour proceeds to the Cruz del Condor viewpoint a location for observing the Colca Canyon and condor flights. The return journey includes stops at the towns of Pinchollo Maca and Yanque each with colonial churches and viewpoints such as Choquetico and Antahuilque. These locations provide views of the valley’s terraces pre-Inca tombs and models. Lunch is not included.
The return to Arequipa begins at 1:00 PM with arrival estimated between 5:00 PM and 6:00 PM.

Travelers should be aware that high altitude conditions can affect individuals differently. It is advisable to acclimate before engaging in strenuous activities. “We were totally beat” by the end of the second day. “The bus ride was a bit of a grind” with the winding roads. “Honestly the views were totally worth it” even though the early start was “a bit of a drag”. “We where told that this tour was a must do” and it really was.
